Public Works Minister Mobutu Nyenpan has assured Liberians of government’s commitment to the full implementation of the 225 kilometres Ganta-Tappita-Zwedru road project.
Speaking at the official signing ceremony of Euros 14 million financing instrument between the Government of Liberia and the German Development Bank under the Liberia Reconstruction Trust Fund (LRTF) in Sinkor on Tuesday, the Public Works Minister said the pavement project will enable smooth and active movement of citizens.
The LRTF, according to Minister Nyenpan, is a multi-partner mechanism to fund road and power infrastructure in Liberia.
“We will make sure that this German Government-funded project will be given serious attention by our government to ensure value for money in fulfilment of President Weah’s quest to connect all of the capital cities of the 15 counties,” Nyenpan stressed.
He added that as officials of the government, they attach a great deal of importance to this road corridor because the lack of road in that part of the country, especially the southeast, has led to the neglect and marginalization of those living there.
He opined that the road to development begins with the development of roads, something that, he said, is enshrined in the government’s development agenda, otherwise known as the Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD), which seeks to lift Liberians out of poverty.
Nyenpan believes that the contribution of the German Government to the LRTF, which specifically targets different areas, is good news for the country and called on Liberians to rally around the government to ensure the successful implementation of that road project.
Minister Nyenpan referenced the German Government’s enormous contributions to the LRTF in the past through which Liberia was able to construct the Red-Light to Gbarnga, and Gbarnga to Ganta and the Guinean border road as well as other major road corridors across the country.
He applauded President Weah and the German Government for keeping engaged in a manner which is yielding positive results for the people of Liberia.
