According to our Nimba County Correspondent, the spokesman of the Progressive Students Movement of Nimba County, Melekeh Gborkpeah has reportedly been ordered arrested and detained at the Ganta Police station allegedly upon the order of the Nimba County Education Office (CEO) Mr. Moses Dolopea.
The arrest and detention was made today, July 31, 2020 when the Progressive Students Movement of Nimba County, assemble on the grounds of the district one Education Office following a report that the CEO had scheduled a meeting with all District Education Officers (DEOs) across the county on the reopening of primary and secondary schools across the county leaving out universities and colleges.
The students peaceful protest lasted for about two hours at the John Wesley Pearson High school campus in front of Bain Garr DEO office where they had gone to seek the attention of CEO in order to address their plight for the reopening of universities and colleges as it has been done to primary and secondary schools through a peaceful protest.
On the contrary Nimba County Education Officer Mr. Dolopea along with other education stakeholders allegedly ordered the arrest of the head of the protesting students, Melekeh Gborkpeah for disrupting the meeting of the DEOs through their (The students) battle cry which they said was embarrassing to their meeting.
According to GNN Nimba County Correspondent, few hours later the students leader was released from behind bars which led to the CEO to hold a press conference regarding the behaviors of the students, noting that if they had any problem with the reopening of schools in the county, they should go to Monrovia and address the issue to the proper authorities at the Ministry of Education.
