GNN is pleased to bring to you one of its newest slots, Meet Liberia’s Senior Citizen’, this slot will feature the country’s senior citizens every week. This week we go to Nimba County’s remotest village, Dahnpa Town from where GNN Correspondent had an exclusive interview with one of the senior citizens in that part of the country.
‘Great Grandma Zoetayeawon’ as she is affectionately call by many of her great grandchildren and others has been telling GNN Liberia in her home town, Dahnpa Town, Nimba County District # 9 of her experience during her youthful days in the early 1930s; making comparison of today’s generation and those days of her time.
Born 1928, Zoetayeawon Bleh who spoke to our Correspondent through an interpreter recast her memories during her youthful days, noting that those days her generation had the fear of God, and were always willing to take advise in propelling their lives for their betterment, adding, “Nowadays young people are very disrespectful to the older ones, including the disobeying constituted authority,” she lectured our staff during the interview.
Explaining her enjoyable days during the era of President, William Vacanarat Shadrach Tubman, said those days as a young girl coming up in life, respect for authority became the hallmark for any successful young lady or man who wanted to be blessed by God, noting, “We were not anxious to run behind men or depend on men, as it is been done during your generation. We were submissive to anyone who came across us. But look into your generation women are misusing their bodies; some commercialize theirs,” she recounted the behaviors of Liberian women nowadays.
‘Great Grandma’ as she was also called by our Correspondent during the interview is the moth of 15, 35 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren bragged of the blessings God has bestowed upon her to have reach this time, stressing, “God can add more years to your age once you are committed to his will, and do those things that are good in his sight, you will live more years,” she said.
When asked about the state of today’s Liberia, ‘Great Grandma’ with tears oozing from her eyes said, “Leaders of this country must seek the face of God, they must turn their backs on those unholy things that will plunge this country into another calamity,” the country’s senior citizen further warned.
