LIBERIA: NEC Chairman Complains Of Unknown Armed Men Attacking His Home
Fearful news is said to coming to the head of the Liberia National Elections Commission; reporting that in the face of the release of provisional results for both the just ended Senatorial and Representative elections for Montserrado County, armed men have reportedly attacked his home
According Cllr. Jerome G. Korkoya his home came under on Monday evening after minutes when he arrived, demanding him to announce the final results. The suspected attack comes a day after NEC Chairman Korkoya announced this on a local radio station on Wednesday, July 31, 2019.
“This news is scaring; the government must do something about this to provide security to the NEC Chairman, Jacob Peters of central Monrovia speaking to the GNN noted.
This reported threats come in the wake of the first provisional announcement of the by-elections where Darius Dillon, of the Liberty Party, captured 53, 270 votes, representing, 53.88%, over Paulita Wie, ove the ruling CDC who got 36,531 votes, representing, 36.95%.
For the Representative D#15 seat, the National Election Commission reported that the candidate of the governing Coalition for Democratic Change-CDC, Abu Kamara, accumulated a total vote of 5,515, representing, 45.9%, while her major challenger Telia Urey, receiving an initial vote of 4,540, representing 37.89%.
