Isis leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi killed in Syria in US military strike
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of Islamic State, who oversaw the group’s ascendancy into a global terror organisation ruling a self-styled caliphate, has been killed in an an American military raid in northern Syria last night, President Trump has confirmed.
The raid took place in northwestern Idlib province, not far from the Turkish border. A squadron of helicopters accompanied by a warplane targeted an area around the village of Barisha for around two hours where Isis members had been sheltering, the monitoring group the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. At least nine people were killed, it added.
