LIBERIA: PUL Elections Committee Releases Listing For Qualified Candidates For November 9th Poll

The Press Union of Liberia Elections Committee has released the final listing for those who are qualified to contest the Union elections on November 9th 2019 in Monrovia, according to a statement issue by the committee chaired by Jarlawah A. Tonpo said.
The statement said, after review and scrutiny of all 10 aspirants who applied to contest in the Press Union of Liberia’s 2019 Elections, the Elections Committee (EC) hereby releases the list of qualified candidates.
Those qualified include:

FOR THE POSITIONOF VICE PRESIDENT

- Musa M.B.Kenneh
FOR THE POSITION OF ASSISTANT SECRETARY GENERAL
- AkoiM.Baysah,Jr
- Jutonu Y.Kollie
- 3.Moses K. Garzeawu
Aspirant Facla B.Harris’ application to contest the position of President was UNSUCCESSFUL based on her current role as Director of Outreach and Sensitization at the Independent Information Commission which is a public relations function.
The EC’s decision to disqualify aspirant Harris is based on Article 4 Section (iv) of the PUL’s Constitution adopted October 10, 2009 which states: “Public Relations Officers/Managers who were full members of the Union as of coming in to force of 1his constitution shall continue to remainΒ Β full members of the Union. They shall vote, but shall not be voted!’
Howbeit, Tetee C.Karneh , the EC’s Secretary, dissented on the disqualification.
In accordance with the Elections Timetable, campaign officially opens at 12 a.m. on Monday, October 28, 2019 and ends at midnight on Thursday, November 7,2019.
The EC warns all qualified candidates and their supporters to desist from early campaign activities or face stringent disciplinary actions.
Moreover, the EC releases the Official Voters’ Roll for challenge(s) from October 26- 28,2019, the statement signed by the Co-Chair, Ansu Β S. Konneh Β noted.
