BUCHANAN, May 15 (LINA) – The head of the company contracted to build a 30-bedroom home for the disabled in Grand Bassa County launched by the First Lady, has assured Superintendent Janjay Baikpeh that the facility is expected to be finished in the next two months.
The Sidani Group of Companies is the contractual firm building the first home for the disabled in rural Liberia that will jointly host members of the Group of 77, Christian Association of the Blind and the Old Folks.
The company made the disclosure during a tour Supt. Baikpeh undertook along with his local leadership at the weekend to assess progress being made on First Lady Clar Marie Weah’s project which is ongoing in the Own-your-Own Community in Buchanan.
In an interview with reporters, the Chief Engineer said each room at the facility is self-contained with a bathroom that will operate a water system; stating that the roofing of the building has been completed, while the installation of the ceiling and sliding windows are ongoing.
The modern facility is being fenced so as to provide maximum security for beneficiaries who will occupy the home, while nurses in the county are to provide medical care for the occupants.
A mini-paved road leading to the home is also being constructed to ensure easy access, considering the conditions of the visually impaired, physically challenged and old folks.
“This state-of-the-art home explains a holistic approach of government’s development strategies, particularly its agenda to elevate other citizens from marginalized state to an inclusive status of development in Liberia,” Supt. Baikpeh said.
He said for the first time in the country’s history, President George Weah’s wife through the Clar Weah Foundation will provide regular feeding for our brothers and sisters whose life situations left them only with the option to embark on street begging over the decades.
Upon completion, the project will impact the lives of over 100 people, with the Christian Association of the Blind accounting for 46 of the number.
