Tens thousands of Liberians under the banner ‘Save The State’ protest organized by the Council of Patriots aimed at demanding the President George Weah led government to improving the livelihood of the Liberian people was on Friday held on the grounds of the Capitol Building peacefully.
The protesters who trooped in their numbers from around Monrovia and its environs chanted anti-Weah slogans including the immediate dismissal of the ministers of Finance, Development and Planning (MFDP), Samuel Tweah and State for Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel McGill, the Executive Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL), Nathaniel Patray..
Earlier, the Ministers of Justice, Frank Musa Dean, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gbehzohngar Findley, Representative Edwin Snowe and the President of ECOWAS Commission. Jean-Claude Kassi Brou were all on the ground of the Capitol Building to receive the protesters’ statement for onward presentation to the Liberian leader, President George Weah.
After hours of waiting as the crowd grew massively in anticipation of the statement to be received by the Liberian leader, organizers of the protest, the Council of Patriots, raised another qualms, demanding that those five individuals who were recently detained by the police be released before the statement in question be presented.
One of the organizers, Henry P. Costa, who is also one of the brains behind this protest pleaded with the tens of thousands, who turned out to protest, that they should go home and come back on Monday, June 10.
Speaking to our reporters, the protesters lauded the Liberia National Police for providing a secured environment free of violence.
However, Council of Patriot (COP) is expected to hold a press conference is on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at the headquarters of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) to give reason why Friday’s statement was not presented.
