On a very cold Friday afternoon, November 22, 2019 in Manhattan, New York, another ‘Hard working’ social worker of a US based I-Help Liberia Project was honored by the organization in the auditorium of the Hunter College High School with dozens of students and well-wishers in full attendance to witness the occasion.
Ms. Asta Kaba, a professional mathematics instructor who has always been in the frontline of the organization (I-Help Liberia Project) providing teaching aide in the area of math along with other American scholars whenever the made a visit to Liberia to hold workshops for Liberian teachers was bestowed upon her the Angie Brooks Humanitarian Service Award.
According to the organization, the purpose of bestowing upon Ms. Kaba in recognition of her outstanding dedicated to creativity and humanity towards the growth and improvement of the Liberian educational services over the years.
Over the years, I-Help Liberia Project which was established by a diaspora Liberian based in the United States, Mr. Asumana Randolph with the sole objective of helping to improving the Liberian educational system through STEM.
Mr. Randolph is a Liberian who teaches science at Hunter College High School in New York City. Through his decades at Hunter, he has worked with countless students in his teaching lab in room 409. Not only does he excite high students about science, he also reaches out to them in a way few teachers can. He finds out about their lives, teases them about their boyfriends or girlfriends (real or imagined), and asks to see their report cards. Because of the way in which is truly cares about his students, many of them stay in touch with him throughout their lives. Some of them carry on his love of sharing his knowledge, as well as his deep concern for other people, by contributing to the I-HELP Liberia Project.
Receiving her plaque, Ms. Asta Kaba who appeared excited, was voiceless due to joy for being chosen by the I-Help Liberia Project in the United States to be honored, but however, expressed thanks and appreciation to Mr. Randolph to be selected as this year’s honoree.
Since its inception in 2008, this organization has had dozens workshops in Liberia, focusing on educating and inspiring teachers so that they can pass on knowledge and enthusiasm to their students. Its team including scholars from the Hunter College High School, and other American educational institutions has made an impact through their teaching workshops in Liberia.
