Mabutu Vlah Nyenpan of the Public Works Ministry and Cooper W. Kruah, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications
The Revolutionary National Youth League of the ruling Congress for Democratic Change or Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) has indicted two top Ministers of the party.
In a press statement issued Monday, the Youth League accused Ministers Mabutu Vlah Nyenpan of the Public Works Ministry and Cooper W. Kruah of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of supporting candidates in the by-elections in Sinoe and Montserrado County electoral district #13 against the governing CDC’s candidates in those areas.
The Youth League said it is dismayed over the alleged supports to opposition candidates against the interest of the CDC, saying “it is a political deception.”
“The information available through our intelligence bureau suggesting that Mr. Kruah has his daughter in the race in District 13, Montserrado County on the ticket of the Unity Party and is using his position and affiliation with government to undermine the mighty Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) candidate, John J. Weah.
“Our attention has been drawn to Mr. Nyenpan, who is supporting an opposition candidate Romeo Quiah against the party’s candidate in Sinoe County. These acts being carried out by the two stewards of the government are ‘disingenuous’ and contravenes the agenda of the CDC-led government,” Emmanuel Swen Secretary General of the CDC said in a statement during a press conference on Monday.
According to the CDC Youth League, such acts on the parts of the two ministers is unwarranted. The Secretary General wants Ministers Kruah and Nyenpan to disembark from their alleged plots against the CDC in the impending by-elections.
“We want to remind these two individuals that the positions they occupied as ministers came on the basis of sweat and blood shared by supporters of CDC. These people cannot be victims for ensuring the popular people’s victory. The Youth League has forwarded a written communication to CDC Chairman, Mulbah Morlu on its assertion of two government officials fighting the party’s interest,” Swen added.
At the same time, the CDC Youth League said its attention has been drawn to “callous demolition” of poor people homes by Public Works Minister Mabutu Nyenpan.
This, according to them, has been done unilaterally by the Public Works Minister and contravenes the party’s quest to protect the interests of underprivileged.
“Minister Nyenpan has over the last few days engaged in anti-poor people endeavor by unilaterally demolishing homes of struggling Liberians,” Swen intoned.
“We are also reliably informed of act of gross insensitivity of Minister Nyepan towards men and women of the National Patriotic Party by constantly insulting them. This must stop.”
The Public Works Minister has not commented on the allegation made by the CDC Youth League up to press time. For his part, the Communication Officer at the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, Caesar Slapeh informed this paper that Minister Kruah is out of Liberia and could not speak on the matter because it’s personal and not relating to the Ministry.
