Dozens of Liberians who spoke to the GNN-Liberia yesterday in reference of recent statement made publicly by Mr. Samuel Tweah, Minister of Finance, Development and Planning that the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) that the CDC will stay in forever has received sharp reactions from the public including some members of the CDC.
Speaking at the headquarter of the CDC on Thursday, December 20, 2018 when five former members of the Unity Party (UP) joined the CDC noting, “We will lead this country for six, twelve or twenty-four years; we will rule this country forever,” these were the exact words of Minister Tweah.
Following his statement, some Liberians who spoke to our reporter publicly rejected the insinuation that the ruling CDC will perpetually stay in power, noting that it will be unfair to other Liberians politicians if the CDC takes this line in its political drive.
Some Liberian expressing their disappointment on the statement made asked as to whether the Liberian Minister of Finance and Development, Planning is serving in dual capacities also as the Minister of Information ; making statements on behalf of this government.
“This guy talks too much, sometimes I wonder if he is the Minister of Information or the chief spokesman of the government. What has this government done for Liberians to agree with him that it will rule this country perpetually?” Nathaniel Barclay of central Monrovia speaking to the GNN wondered.
For Sara Nagbe, a resident of the Borough of New Kru Town, Bushrod Island, believes the utterances of the Finance Minister has propensity of imposing endless hardship on the Liberian people, adding, “Can you imagine, Tweah is telling the Liberian people that this government will stay in power forever, of Couse this sounds good, but let see what this government is doing to transforming the lives of the people of this great nation, Liberia,” Mrs. Nagbe in a chat with the GNN said.
For others, this statement coming from a high profile official of the CDC led government is not in the right direction, but rather to bring President Weah and his government to public ridicule; looking at the way things are happening nowadays, the reported missing billions of the taxpayers’ money.
