The alarming show of naval firepower comes as Russia has ended its blockade of the Kerch Strait off its annexed peninsula of Crimea.
Russia has unveiled Vladimir Putin’s newest state-of-the-art battleship and fired its first cruise missile amid the Ukraine conflict.
The defence ministry in Moscow showcased its naval firepower today amid the alarming sea conflict off the Crimean coast.
The new corvette Gromky (Loud) successfully launched its first Uran (Uranus) cruise missile, the ministry’s TV channel Zvezda reports.
The military exercise in the Sea of Japan was backed up by as many as 10 warships, auxiliary boats and Pacific Fleet naval aircrafts.
Pacific Fleet spokesman Nikolay Voskrsenskiy said: “The missile successfully hit its target 40 kilometres (25 miles) from the warship.”
