Liberians are calling on their youthful president and soccer legend of the world, George Manneh Weah’s Government to speedily bring to justice of those accused of the misapplication of millions of taxpayers’ money who they alleged are roaming the county with impunity.
The youth groups I their numbers of Brewerville, Montserrado County and Bopolu, Bgarpolu County speaking to reporters last week in the township of Brewerville through their spokesman, Earnest K.T. Jallah said they were taken aback by the failure of the ex-president of Liberia; Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to prosecute a Nigerian businessman, Tony Lawal who took over US$26 Million for the pavement and reconstruction of roads in Gbarpolu and Montserrado Counties which are yet to be completed.
The groups spokesperson also alleged that Lawal who fearlessly misapplied taxpayers’ money for his alleged link with the than first family; the presidency has continue to roam the country with impunity, and therefore called on the CDC led Government to prosecute Tony Lawal and his companies, the Pealat Construction Company and the Glory Praise Lawal Construction Company.
“We are calling on our President, H.E. George Manneh Weah to order the appropriate government agencies to bring Mr. Lawal to book to explain to the Liberian people on how the taxpayers’ money given him to provide assessable roads network to the people is being expanded. Because as far we are concerned Tony Lawal and his group of companies have not done anything to ease difficulties being faced by our people who are the users of these roads,” Jallah in a very frustrated state told journalists.
Currently, according to the youth groups, these roads reportedly undertaken by Tony Lawal are yet to be visible in imperfect condition; as they have been cut off from the capital, with residents of these areas using bypasses to reaching the city instead of the regular routine, “This situation is hampering the free movement of goods and services. We are appealing to the President of this nation to see reason for our plight,” Mr. Jallah lamented.
In 2017, this outlet, GNN-Liberia unearthed through an investigation with documents from the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) that Tony Lawal and his companies, the Pealat Construction Company and the Glory Praise Lawal Construction Company received millions of United States Dollars under the pretext of carrying out the rehabilitation of road projects instead such amount was not used for the intended purpose thus leaving residents alongside these roads to face difficulties in their day to day movement.
Following GNN-Liberia report, Tony Lawal in order to shamelessly safe face, issued a US$10 million lawsuit against the management of this outlet noting that the information released was incorrect and therefore charged the outlet and its Chief Executive Officer, Joel Cholo Brooks with libel and the deformation of character, while at the same time fleeing the country for Nigeria.
