As Liberians battle with the increased hardship coupled with the outbreak of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, a local daily has reported today how the Liberian leader, President George Manneh Weah is living a luxury life amid these entire uncontrollable situations.
According to the paper, the Liberian leader in recent time has upgraded his presidential motorcade with the world’s state-of-art chain of vehicles aimed at making him to comfortably rule the people of Liberia.
On June 18, 2020, the presidential motorcade vehicles included two bulletproof trucks arrived in the country at the aggregate cost of US$1.9 million for the presidency, the paper quoting an impeachable source said.
The paper (The New Democrat) also gathered that the four, A-Class Toyota Land Cruiser has cost the Liberian Government US$365,000 per piece; this means US$1.4 million was spent on the Toyota Land Cruiser. Besides, two bulletproof cars were bought at the price of US$220,000 per unit.
The newly purchased cars add to the Mercedes-Benz W220 S-Class, which is the official car of the President of the Republic of Liberia and the four Land Cruiser C-Class previously used by the former Liberian President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
The Liberian leader’s motorcade is being upgraded at the time the Country is experiencing its worst financial and economic crisis after the civil war. An already crippling economy has further deteriorated due in no small part to the coronavirus lockdown.
The domestic economy has collapsed to negative two points zero percent and inflation is standing at 30%. According to the paper, the presidential press secretary has reportedly declined to comment on the matter when contacted, noting, “It is not in my purview comment,” he said, “Ask the Minister of Information.” When the paper contacted Minister Eugene Nagbe on the issue he also declined to speak to the issue.
Effort by the GNN to also contact the Minister of Information, Eugene Nagbe via mobile phone proved futile. GNN reporter also visited the Minister’s office but is whereabouts was unknown.
