The Liberia National Police (LNP) has released its report into the death of the grievance head at the Sime Darby Plantation Liberia (SDPL).
It can be recalled that the late Odisa Kollie, head of the grievance at the Sime Darby Plantation Liberia died on the plantation, a situation which led to a go slow strike action at the plantation.
Releasing the report Saturday, April 7, 2018, in Klay, Bomi County, the Liberia National Police Chief of public safety, Commissioner John Saah said that the late Kollie did not died as a result of murder as it has been speculated by many residents in the county.
Commissioner Saah said that the late Kollie died as a result of motor accident involving one of the vehicles of Sime Darby Plantation Liberia and a motorbike, contrary to rumors by residents of the community.
“According to the report from the CID, Mr. Kollie did not died as a result of murder. Mr. Kollie died as a result of road traffic accident. According to the CID and your own representative you gave us to carry out this investigation, they all examined the body. The fact surrounding the death of Mr. Kollie was not a murder, it was an accident,” commissioner Saah stressed.
Commissioner Saah also disclosed that the police has charged the driver of the Sime Darby vehicle, Abraham Bah for reckless driving and would send him to court on , Monday, April 9, 2018 for prosecution.
Commissioner Saah further revealed that though the rider of the bike is still on the run, the driver of the vehicle has admitted to committing the crime, thus, he reported himself to the police within the statutory period of time according to the law.
However, commissioner Saah has called on the residents and immediate family of the late Kollie to remain calm as justice takes it course, adding that the report can be challenged in the court if you wish but with sufficient evidence.
Meanwhile, the residents and family have detested the police report and vowed to challenge the report in a court of competence jurisdiction in or to bring the real perpetrators to book.
But when Commissioner Saah asked if anyone could come out to say that he or she saw anyone murder the late Kollie, no one could speak. Everyone kept mute.
Speaking on behalf of the residents and workers, Sam Mulbah expressed thanks to the police for the level of work carried out in the incident but assured the family that they would pursue the matter to its logical conclusion.
“We want to congratulate the police thus far for their report and thank God it has now reached the level of the court. We are calling on the family members to remain calm as we all join hands to challenge the report in court and we are going to do so at all cost,” Mulbah maintained.
For his part, Bomi County labor commissioner, Sieh Thomas promised to also follow up and stand with the workers in this struggle but clarified that at the appropriate time, the labor aspect of the case would be properly addressed.
Thomas also thanked the police for the level of work and called on the family and residents to remain calm as they go about this matter so as to properly resolve it for the good of all sides.
But for family members of the diseased in an interview with journalists expressed disappointment in the police findings, noting that they will seek further legal redress from the court on the loss of their relatives which they said was a foul play.
