Mr. President, The World Is Watching You, Please Take Action On Corrupt Officials
RECENTLY, THE LIBERIAN leader, Ambassador Joseph Nyuma Boakai in a British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) interview, shed light on various governance issues including corruption, food security, impunity, drug abuse, and the future of Liberia’s youth.
IN THAT INTERVIEW, the 26th President of Africa’s oldest independent nation, Liberia, emphasized the need for a change in the wrong perception about government as a place for self-elevation and personal enrichment, rather than a place of service and accountability.
HE USED THE international news platform to vow that he would dismiss any official of government caught in acts of abuse of public resources, as he views corruption as the root cause of Liberia’s age-old underdevelopment and poverty problems.
PRESIDENT BOAKAI SAID he believes that Liberia is not a poor country but on the contrary, the country is well endowed, and that people must understand their responsibility to the state and people to change the narrative about Liberia being a poor and corrupt country.
THE PRESIDENT INTIMATED that he is selective when it comes to appointing people in government, as he is determined to fight corruption to the core. He pointed to his long years of public service without any stain of corruption to serve as a reminder for people coming into government.
THIS PLATFORM IS greatly excited about the President’s promise and quest to weed out corrupt officials from his government whose ultimate interest is to enrich themselves at the expense and detriment of the country and its people. President Boakai said such attitude has only pulled the country backward, leaving lagging behind amongst the comity of nations
PRESIDENT, WE urge you to stand by what you said during your BBC interview; the world is watching on as you steer the affairs of Liberia to its highest prosperity, as you and your rescue team have pledged.
