Police Investigates Two Of Its Officers …For Attempting To Arrest British National

Mr. Najib Kamand

The Standard division of the Liberia National  Police has launched an investigation into allegations of two  officers, Mathias Demean and  his friend, for attempting to arrest a British national and owner of palm spring  Resort hotel, Mr. Najib Kamand.

On Christmas eve, December 24, two plain clothes officers went to palm spring Resort to arrest its manager for what they termed as acting on court‘s order.  They refused to identify themselves.  One of the officers, Matthias forced his way into the hotel premises to arrest the manger after he was seen leaving.  He was over powered and later his pistol dropped. This made him to call for a backup.

Upon arrival of the backup from a nearby station, they realized that he was acting illegally-hence their silence to provide the needed support.

He said he was acting on a court order from the deputy police director, Madam Sadatu Reeves (who was said to be out of the country). It was realized the writ of arrest was not correct according to one of the lawyers of palm spring hotel, Cllr. Swaliho Sesay.

Top police sources told this paper on Wednesday that they will inform the public as soon as the investigation is completed.

Due to that, the high command of the police launched an investigation into the case to ascertain who authorized them to go and effect the arrest.

“We have commenced and investigation into what occurred at the palm spring hotel. We want to know what happened there. After the investigation, we will let you all know,’ the officer who declined to be named said.

The attempted arrest has been described by Mr. Kamand  as a means to harm him. He has informed the British Embassy and the Liberian government.

When called police spokesman for  comments, he was not immediately available.
