NTA Unveils 20 New Air-Conditioned Mini-Buses
By Amos Harris
The National Transit Authority (NTA) has reached a significant milestone in its mission to modernize Liberia’s public transportation system following the arrival of 20 brand-new, fully air-conditioned 18-seater mini-buses. These vehicles were delivered through a strategic procurement partnership with ABK Motors Incorporated, directly supporting the Government of Liberia’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.
During a press briefing at the NTA headquarters, Managing Director Edmond Forh explained that this delivery marks the second phase of a comprehensive nationwide effort to strengthen transit services. He noted that the initiative focuses on expanding public access, improving passenger comfort, and ensuring a higher level of reliability for commuters throughout the country.
The introduction of these mini-buses is expected to transform mobility for many citizens, particularly those residing in remote areas and underserved communities connected by feeder roads. By offering a dependable and affordable alternative to private charter services, the new fleet aims to alleviate daily travel challenges and lower overall transportation costs for thousands of Liberians.
This acquisition is part of a larger agreement with ABK Motors to bring a total of 60 new vehicles into the national fleet. The project began with an initial batch of 35 high-capacity, 62-seater mass transit buses which are already in operation. To further bolster the country’s logistics and economic infrastructure, five cargo trucks are also scheduled to arrive shortly to assist in the movement of goods.
NTA management views the arrival of this second batch as a critical step in scaling the nation’s mass transit network. Beyond improving passenger travel, the upcoming cargo trucks will enhance the authority’s capacity to transport essential materials, thereby supporting broader economic activities across Liberia.
The total investment—comprising 35 mass transit buses, 20 mini-buses, and five cargo trucks—highlights the government’s commitment to building a safe, efficient, and cost-effective infrastructure. With these advancements, the National Transit Authority continues to prioritize the growing mobility needs of the population while driving inclusive national development.
