NIGERIA: 17 injured as bus runs over worshippers celebrating ‘resurrection of Jesus’ in Adamawa

By Jim Ochetenwu|

At least, 17 people were injured after a passenger bus ran over Christian worshippers in Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

DAILY POST gathered Monday evening that the accident occurred earlier in the morning, around 10 am, when some Christian faithful were on a procession marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Witnesses said most of the injured were women and young people, and that the driver and the vehicle had been apprehended.

Explaining how the accident happened, one of the witnesses, Stanley Hassan, said, “It has become a tradition that every Monday, some members of the Christian community march in procession to a nearby mountain, which they call Galilee.

“While they were in procession, a passenger bus came from behind them and injured so many people. It almost led to a serious crisis but the situation seems calm now. There is no case of death.”

He added, however, that the injured, many of them with bone fractures, had been admitted into different hospitals.
