Nationwide Vehicle Inspection Campaign Launched by MOT and LNP

Monrovia, Liberia – April 4, 2025: The Ministry of Transport (MOT), in collaboration with the Liberia National Police (LNP), has officially announced the resumption of its nationwide motor vehicle inspection campaign, set to commence on Monday, April 7, 2025, in Monrovia and its environs.

A launch ceremony held today at the Ministry of Transport in Monrovia convened high-ranking officials from both the MOT and the LNP, signaling a unified effort to ensure vehicle roadworthiness across Liberia.

Transport Minister Sirleaf Ralph Tyler, addressing attendees, underscored the critical need for professionalism, respect, and accountability among the inspectors and police officers tasked with conducting the inspections.

“We are all Liberians, and treating each other with dignity is paramount,” stated Minister Tyler. “The law applies to everyone equally. Our shared responsibility is to ensure that all road users adhere to the regulations governing vehicle operations within Liberia.”

Minister Tyler directed inspectors and supervisors to promptly report any challenges encountered during the process to the relevant authorities within the Ministry. He also assured the public of a transparent and orderly inspection process, operating on a “first come, first served” basis.

He clarified that the initiative is intended to enhance road safety and is not designed to intimidate or single out individuals. “Our aim is to uphold what is right, and we hold every Liberian in respect, irrespective of their societal standing,” he emphasized.

Furthermore, Minister Tyler reminded all vehicle owners of the mandatory requirement to have essential safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers, installed in their vehicles to successfully pass the inspection.

Patrick Smith, Director for Motor Pool at the Liberia National Police, echoed the LNP’s commitment to the campaign, urging officers to maintain utmost professionalism in their duties.

“As members of the police force, our role extends beyond enforcement; we are here to assist and serve the public,” Smith affirmed. “Every officer participating in this exercise must interact with citizens respectfully and report any violations through the established procedures.”

The vehicle inspection exercise will initially focus on Montserrado County before being progressively rolled out to other counties throughout Liberia in the coming weeks.
