By Amos Harris
Community leader and aspiring political figure Sie D. Anderson has intensified his community engagement in Matadi Estate, Montserrado County District #9, launching several initiatives focused on education, youth development, and improved public infrastructure. The projects include the renovation and dedication of a local basketball court, the construction of a public bus stop, and the provision of 500 scholarships for students attending vacation school in Matadi Estate.
Speaking during the dedication ceremony for the renovated basketball court in Old Matadi Estate, Anderson explained that the interventions respond directly to practical community needs while creating new opportunities for young people.
As part of the educational support, Anderson announced funding for 500 vacation school scholarships, describing education as a vital long-term investment in the community and the nation. He also disclosed plans to donate two sewing machines to support vocational skills training, aiming to help residents acquire practical trades for self-reliance and income generation.
The newly built bus stop will offer students, workers, and commuters a safer, covered space to wait for transportation during heavy rainfall and intense heat. Meanwhile, the upgraded basketball court provides local youth with a dedicated recreational venue designed to foster teamwork, discipline, physical fitness, and constructive engagement.
These latest efforts build on Anderson’s previous community activities, which include participating in the dedication of a public restroom in Wortto Town and supporting sanitation drives in Finati Town leading up to Liberia’s July 26 Independence Day celebrations.
Community chiefs, elders, youth leaders, and women’s groups welcomed the projects, praising them as practical interventions that directly benefit residents, particularly students and vulnerable community members.
Looking ahead to the 2029 legislative elections, where he intends to challenge the incumbent representative of District #9, Anderson pledged to maintain his support for grassroots development, emphasizing his goal to improve living conditions and expand economic and social opportunities throughout the district.
