MPW COMMENCES BARCLAYVILLE CITY STREETS PROJECT

At long last, the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Public Works has commenced the construction and laying out of streets in Barclayville City, Grand Kru County.

Grand Kru County Development Officer Joe Sekpeh told the GNN Monday March 10, 2025 that the laying out of Barclayville Streets will take into consideration existing and non-existing roads, including allays that have not been opened.

Sekpeh asserted that the project will support and improve the effective flow of traffic and commercial activities, including the free movement of citizens’ within the City.

According to him, the project is sponsored by the County Administration with an estimated cost of US$10,000 from the County Development Fund with.

However, he predicted that the cost of the project may be high, and used the medium to call on the County’s Legislative Caucus to buttress the efforts of the County Administration.

Speaking further, the County Development Officer extolled the National Government through the Ministry of Public Works for making available more than five earthmoving equipment which are expected in Grand Kru on March 22, 2025 for the smooth running of the project in line with the Government’s ARREST Agenda for improved infrastructure developments.

Grand Kru County, which is one of the oldest counties in Liberia, lacks adequate infrastructural development.

But the Residents of Barclayville has expressed enthusiasm for the decision by Central Government and the County Administration to layout principal streets within the City.

Additionally, Mr. Sekpeh reaffirmed the current commitment by government to implement the ARREST AGENDA, and warmed critics against discussing the negatives, but urged the critics to praise the government for progress made and deliverables achieved.

He explained that the initiative by the current County Administration will now serve as motivation for development partners wanting to do business with Grand Kru County, adding that the rural electrification has also begun the installation of Poles to install Solar Streetlights in Barclayville.

Meanwhile, the Grand Kru County Development Officer has applauded the city corporations, zonal heads and residents for their level of support since the commencement of the project in Barclayville.
