Monrovia- March 27, 2025- The Managing Director of Liberia’s National Port Authority (NPA), Hon. Sekou A. M. Dukuly, yesterday led a delegation of European Union (EU) representatives to the Alfred A. Ross Port of Greenville, Sinoe County. The visit marks a significant step toward developing Port infrastructure in Liberia, following the country’s selection for the EU-funded SCOPE Africa Programme.
During the tour, Hon. Dukuly informed the EU delegation of the NPA’s plan to begin renovating damaged infrastructure, emphasizing that the renovation process would begin shortly. He noted that skilled technicians and materials are already on the grounds of the Alfred A. Ross Port in Greenville, with an official progress assessment set for two months.
The NPA Managing Director, Hon. Dukuly, at the same time, expressed gratitude to the EU for including port electrification as part of the €44 million rural electrification project aimed at improving services, reducing costs, and attracting investment.
For her part, EU Ambassador to Liberia H.E. Nona Deprez highlighted the importance of the project in revitalizing the cities of Greenville and Buchanan with both solar and hydroelectric power by December 2025. The EU Ambassador H.E. Deprez then lauded the NPA leadership team for keeping the Port of Greenville operational in the face of excruciating circumstances.
Ambassador Nona Deprez reiterated the EU’s commitment to the project and its transformative potential for the region. “A total of €44 million has been allocated for electricity distribution, stressing the importance of a collaborative approach to avoid delays and meet the completion deadline.
The program was attended by Sinoe County Superintendent Hon. Peter W. Nyensuah and Cllr. Sylvia A. Tarley, Director of the Port of Greenville, and other stakeholders in Greenville.
