As Liberia battle against the Coronovirus which has swept dozens of lives in Liberia, group of health practitioners under Liberia Public Health Association says it has deployed more than one thousand professional health volunteers across the country.
The Association’s Board Co-Chairman Morrison Tamba said the deployment is intended to help tackle and buttress the efforts of the Liberian Government and other health partners in breaking the transmission level of the Corona virus.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with our staff in Monrovia, Mr. Tamba said breaking the transmission chain level of the pandemic remains vital in the fight and must be considered seriously.
Mr. Tamba noted the volunteers are serving as contact tracers, active case finders partnering with the National CONVID 19 Response Team, National Public Health Institute of Liberia and the Ministry of Health at the community, county and country levels.
He named massive social mobilization, community awareness, risk communication among others as activities undertake by the team of professional health volunteers in helping to break the transmission chain level of the Corona virus.
Tamba said the team of health professionals is deployed in Montserrado and other counties considered hot spot to include Grand Bassa, Nimba, Martini and are working collaboratively with the county health teams in the fight against the virus.
He pointed out that their team of health professionals is also deployed in counties not affected by the pandemic, noting they remain posted in readiness for any eventuality and subsequent intervention.
“With the level of health expertise, Liberia Public Health Association can significantly contribute to getting rid of this unseen and life threatening health enemy”, Tamba explained.
He added giving the medical implications, signs and symptoms of the virus, such fight require people with the medical know how to post relevant questions that can derive at the presence of the virus.
According to him, identification cards and jackets have been prepared through the self-contributions from the health professionals, something he expressed delight saying it demonstrates their desire help battle the virus and safe lives.
He narrated further that the deployment followed series of meetings with the Incident Management System, and other relevant health authorities coupled with refresher training sessions for the professional health volunteers.
The deployment comes in the wake increase in the number of corona virus cases of seven hundred and seventy cases inclusive of thirty six deaths, three hundred recoveries and other confirmed cases as of June 28, 2020 according to the National Public Health Institute update.
Tamba who craved the cooperation of his colleagues and the public believes tremendous gains can accomplished when all remain on such footing.
“This fight must not be seen a government fight, but all must consider it as personal conscious responsibility to ensure a collective defeat of the virus,” he cautioned.
He expressed disappointment over those who are still in denial of the virus, stressing door to door massive awareness and mobilization.
The Liberian health practitioner reminded Liberians to adhere strictly to all health protocols social distancing, wearing of nose masks, constant washing of hands among others to drastically reduce the transmission rate of the pandemic.
Tamba at the same time launched an appeal to government and other health partners for logistical support mainly transportation and communication to effectively carryout its work.
“The initiative is solely voluntary, but our health professionals need to move from one place to another with effective communication, “ he observed.
He then lauded the NPHIL, National CONVID 19 Response Team, and Ministry of Health for the level of efforts exerted so far in combating the corona virus, while requesting more effective coordination and collaboration in the fight.
