The Government of Liberia is seeking the extradition of GT Bank former Managing Director, Ayodeji Bejide, through an international arrest warrant.
The ex-GT Bank official left the country in October 2018, unknown to state lawyers, after the court granted the petition for a writ of NE EXEAT REPUBLICA from the Monrovia City Court to prevent him from leaving the country.
In an interview with journalists, Montserrado County Attorney Cllr. Edwin K. Martin disclosed that INTERPOL has issued “a red alert” for the GT Bank former boss following a formal complaint filed by the government of Liberia.
According to Cllr Martin, their international counterpart is presently in pursuit of the GT Bank former managing director in Nigeria where he is said to be in hiding.
Cllr. Martin further indicated that if they fail to bring the ex-bank director to face criminal prosecution, all those who aided his departure from the country, including his lawyers, will be apprehended consistent with law.
He further stated that it was revealed that he (Martin) was part of the plan for the ex-bank director to leave the country through a medical leave which was granted by Magistrate Kennedy Peabody, but he denied his involvement, saying he did not even know that the magistrate had granted the bank official leave to travel to Nigeria for “medical reason.”
It can be recalled that the GT Bank ex-managing director Bejide on August 28, 2018 allegedly assaulted one of his staff, Edward Freeman, during an argument, causing Freeman to sustain serious injury on his body.
Defendant Bejide has been indicted by the Grand Jury of Montserrado County to be tried.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Court has confirmed that the ex-GT Bank managing director’s case is expected to be heard on February 28.
