Hundreds of rural Maryland County women have vowed to boycott the upcoming 2023 general and presidential elections is the murderer of Modecious Nyema who was reportedly killed by suspect Moses Mlarmah is not brought to justice.

Addressing team of reporters during their gathering in a native town call Gbolobo, the outskirts of Pleebo, Maryland Electoral district#2 on Saturday, January 8, 2022, Chris Walker, head of the rural women in the County said it’s worrisome despite they have received the package includes; rice, cow, drinks, monies amongst other  from president  George Manneh Weah as an apologise to the women, they still seeking Justice in the case of the late Modeciou Nyemah.

According to her, since the beginning of the case, she has made several follow up as head of the rural women but there’s no good results.

Madam Walker disclosed that in December, 2021 she has visited the office of the Ministry of justice, the office of the President, and the Maryland Legislatures and presented formal letters of appeals for the hearing of the case.

But the rural women head said since the letters were served it was only the ministry of justice that have responded while a senior official of Maryland County has promised to have taken her to the president office but failed to do so.

She stressed that although they have accepted the President gifts of apology noting that this does not  mean that they are going to forget about the brutal murder of the Modeciou Nyemah, and the outcome of the case.

” Let me say this, it doesn’t mean since we have gathered to eat this cow including the others items that were given to us by the President than we are going to forget about the case, we still going to keep persuade the case until justice is served” she stressed.

Madam Walker continue that if the plights of the women in the county for Justice is not address before 2023, the rural women will boycott the pending presidential and Representatives election to draw the attention international partner.

She mentioned that they have voted this government to address issues of major concerns and as women of Liberia specifically Maryland county, they trusted H. E President Weah but the constant delayed in the case of the late Modeciou Nyemah seems to be a serious worries for them as women or mothers who stood in the rain and sun to seek justice.

Early last year March, 2021, madam Chris Walker were seem leading thousands of women from all sectors of the county working from Pleebo to Harper in demand of justice.

Their situation which has drawn the attention of the ministry of justice, includes; civil society actors to intervene towards the matter.

But since the burial of late Modeciou that brought together Maryland County Superintendent George A. Prowd who applauded citizens for attending the burial of the late Mordecious Nyemah, whose murder he described as worrisome. He assured family of the deceased that justice will be accorded them for the murder of their son.

Superintendent Prowd said the Government of Liberia is committed to protecting lives of citizens and foreign residents, while condemning ritualistic killings across the country.

According to him, there have been several death cases since he took office as superintendent, but the case of the late Mordecious Nyemah has drawn attention of both citizens and national government. Superintendent Prowd recalled that in the late 70’s, similar situation occurred in the county that involved former superintendent Allen Yancy and other high profile officials, who were tried, adjudged guilty and hanged.

“When you reflect your minds back to Maryland Gboyo history, you will get to know that most of those people, who were involved into ritualistic killings by then, were mostly government officials. I remember, there was a superintendent in Maryland who was caught for ritualistic killing and was hanged and because of this, many citizens look at us as suspects of these current ritualistic acts that are happening in this county”, Superintendent Prowd lamented. He expressed excitement that suspects have been arrested and placed behind bars, awaiting court trial in connection to the murder of the late Mordecious.

“We are too happy and thankful to God that one of the suspects, Moses, who was the first to be arrested, without medicine, without threats or torture, he’s started calling names of people who are involved into the death of Mordecious”, Prowd added. He continued that in as much the suspects are behind bars, there’s a strong case, and burial of the late Modecious doesn’t in anyway end the case.
