Bridge International Academy and the Ministry of education have been invited by the House of Representatives to explain why teachers in the employ of the academy have not been paid their salaries since September 2017.
The House’s decision was triggered by a communication from Nimba County’s District #7 Representative, Roger Domah, calling the attention of his colleagues to what he called serious concern from the aggrieved teachers from the Bridge Partnership School under the Liberia Education Advancement Program (LEAP) being implemented by the Bridge International Academy.
In his communication, the Nimba County lawmaker said a number aggrieved teachers in the Bridge International Academy sponsored schools across his district complained that since September 2017 they have been working without salaries.
During the deliberation, Margibi County Representative, Ben Fofana, said Bridge International Academy has an agreement with the Liberian Government, and further noted that they must be brought to that body to explain their compliance to the agreement.
House Speaker, Bhofal Chambers, Representatives Matthew Zarzar of Sinoe County and Nathaniel Barway of Grand Kru all expressed disappointment, and immediately agreed for Bridge International Academy and the Ministry of Education to appear for questioning.
However, Bridge Liberia Public Relations Manager , Alexander Bearded in an mobile phone interview with the GNN, said, the agreement between Bridge and the government of Liberia puts payment of teachers squarely at the feet of the government and he hopes the lawmaker will take this into consideration by the facts are checked by the lawmakers which are available at the Ministry of Education.
