LIBERIA: Deputy Foreign Minister Elias Shoniyin Actually Resigned

Mr. Elias Shoniyin

The Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Elias Shoniyin has reportedly resigned his position at the ministry based on what source closed to his office said for several administrative reasons.

Prior to his resignation today, May 6, 2019, Mr. Shoniyin has been off work for nearly three weeks, according to our Foreign Minister source, stating that he (Mr. Shoniyin) was disparaged when his subordinate was left in charge to act as Foreign Minister while the proper Minister,  Gbehzohngar  Milton Findley was out of the country for official duty.

This action on the part of the authority at the Ministry pondered many, when in fact the act that created the Ministry states that when the Minister proper is out of the country, the Deputy for Administration should act in his stead, but this was never done, according to our source.

Apparently, this created mixed feelings giving reasons for this action of the Minister to surprisingly tendered in his resignation.

Effort by the GNN to get in contact with Shoniyon to explain as to what led to his resignation proved unsuccessful as his mobile phone rang endlessly.

In a related development, the resignation of Mr. Shoniyin has been received by President George Manneh Weah, noting that Mr. Shoniyin should turn himself over the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission.
