The I-HELP Liberia Project would like to congratulate Dr. Benjamin Isaac Rapoport and Amanda Michelle Muchnick on their wedding! The wedding ceremony took place on Saturday, February 10that the St. Regis in New York City and several I-HELP board members were also in attendance: Dr. Adam Cohen, Professor of Chemistry, Chemical Biology and Physics at Harvard University, and Dr. Andrew Obus, Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of Virginia. In addition, Mr. Asumana Randolph from Hunter College High School and founder of the I-HELP Liberia Project was present to witness the celebration and partake in the festivities.
Amanda is a NYC violinist, born and raised in New York City. She received her B.A. magna cum laude in History from Brown University. She is a member of the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony, and headed the orchestra’s first international tour to China in 2012. She enjoys travelling and learning new languages.
Benjamin graduated with an M.D./Ph.D. from Harvard Medical School. He also holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT, andhe was awarded the Martha Gray Research Award for Biomedical Devices at Harvard as well as a Medical Engineering Fellowship from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology & Center for Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology (MIT-CIMIT).
As a research assistant at DARPA, Benjamin designed and built electrochemical power sources (glucose-based fuel cells) for biologically implantable electronic devices. Benjamin contributed several chapters to a new textbook, Surgery of the Autonomic Nervous System, which is a comprehensive review of the basic science and diverse clinical applications in autonomic surgery. He is one of the scientists and engineers behind the Elon Musk’s Neuralink Project.
Benjamin is a board member of the I-HELP Liberia Project and is one of the founding members of our Liberia Medical Scholars Program. He has made great contributions to our organization over the years, and this occasion was no exception. The couple asked that guests consider making donations to the I-HELP Liberia Project instead of giving traditional wedding gifts. We are beyond grateful for the pair’s generosity, as well as the support we received from everyone at the wedding.We wish Benjamin and Amanda a lifetime of happiness as they embark on a new journey together!
