First Lady Kartumu Yarta Boakai Champions National School Feeding Program
MONROVIA, January 21, 2025 – First Lady Kartumu Yarta Boakai is now the new face of the National School Feeding Program, a role she graciously accepted Wednesday, during a high-level strategic meeting convened at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia.
The meeting, a critical juncture in the fight against student hunger, brought together Education Minister Dr. Jarso Jallah, along with Assistant Minister for Student Personnel Services Madam Sona T. Sesay, and World Food Program (WFP) Liberia Country Director Madam Mary Ngoroge.
Central to the discussions was the Liberian government’s allotment into the national budget, bolstering the National School Feeding program.
The First Lady described the move as a national commitment to eradicating hunger – a barrier to education – and ensuring every child has access to nutritious meals at school.
“Today, we mark a transformative step towards securing our children’s future. With the government’s robust support, we are poised to meet and exceed our goals in enhancing school attendance, performance, and overall child well-being,” Mrs. Boakai asserted.
Education Minister Dr. Jallah expressed profound gratitude over the First Lady’s relentless advocacy, stressing that her leadership is instrumental in making the National School Feeding program a cornerstone of the educational strategy and ensuring that the children are fed, focused, and ready to learn.
The strategic meeting heralds a new era for Liberia’s educational landscape, promising enhanced partnerships and innovative approaches to extend the school feeding program’s reach and impact. It also demonstrates the nation’s dedication to fostering a nurturing environment where every Liberian child can acquire quality education and achieve their dream.
