Barclayville, Grand Kru County – In a significant move toward sustainable forestry, the Forestry Development Authority (FDA) has successfully concluded a one-day awareness session on chainsaw milling regulations, engaging more than 45 participants in Barclayville, Grand Kru County.

The session, held on May 22, 2025, at Senator Bartekwa’s guest house, brought together local authorities, forest operators, and community members in a collaborative effort to promote responsible forest management practices across Liberia.

As part of the FDA’s broader initiative to ensure compliance with proposed forestry regulations, the awareness program aimed to educate chainsaw operators about upcoming guidelines and the importance of legal and sustainable harvesting of timber resources.

“This meeting is a vital step toward briefing chainsaw operators on the proposed guidelines,” said Osman Nye, Program Coordinator of the Liberia Chainsaw and Timber Dealers Union. “Once these regulations are approved, they will serve as standard operating procedures, ensuring that all chainsaw activities align with national forestry objectives.”

Participants included key stakeholders from local leadership structures, FDA officials, and community forest users, all of whom emphasized the need for a unified approach to forest governance. Many attendees voiced their commitment to preserving Liberia’s forest heritage for future generations.

Participants expressed gratitude to the FDA for facilitating the awareness session and pledged to support efforts aimed at sustainable forest management in the county.

The event marks a proactive step by the FDA in bridging the gap between regulation and grassroots implementation, signaling a strengthened partnership with local communities in forest conservation
