GNN has reliably learnt that the founding Chief Medical Officer of the Esther and Jerelyn Medical Center in the commercial City of Ganta, Nimba County has reportedly left the health facility.
According to information gathered, Dr. Peter Matthew George’s departure from the facility is reportedly due to the lack of cordial working relationship between him and the General Administrator, Mr. Victor W. Kpaiseh.
But in conversation with a local radio station during its popular early morning magazine program, “Day Break Gompa” on Friday, September 18, 2020, Dr. George scantily informed the public that he was transferred by the Government of Liberia through its Health Ministry.
“I received a letter of transfer from the government and so I couldn’t say no to it”, Dr. George pointed.
He however, termed his transfer as “abrupt”, adding that he enjoyed the time spent in Nimba County and cannot leave in such a way.
“Nimba is my home and I work for the people of Nimba diligently, i can’t just abruptly leave like that”, he added.
He served the people of Nimba for over four years as Chief Medical Officer for E&J from July 1, 2016 up to this September, 2020.
Though he is now out of the county, but Dr. George says he will continue to keep the people of Nimba in memory as he is always willing to serve them.
He lauded Nimbaians for their hospitality and cooperation in working with him which he says brought him to where he is today.
According to him, he has already temporarily turned over office to his successor.
Speaking to the station, Dr George could not out rightly respond to questions posed to him, but promised to return in a week time during which he will conduct a major press conference detailing factors that led to his transfer.
It is believed that the transfer of Dr. George to Gbarpolu County was masterminded by a few people who see his popularity as threat to their future Political chances.
Of late, Dr. George through his Foundation carried out humanitarian gestures with the latest being a free general surgery in Saclepea City where over 300 patients with diverse medical conditions benefited from the initiative.
Why some citizens lauded him for his humanitarian undertakings, there are still some who see his activities as having Political ambition.
There have barrage of calls from around the perimeter of Ganta some few months when he decided extending hands of love to needy people across the city.
He was one of those health workers buttressing government’s fight against the deadly coronavirus pandemic in Nimba that ravaged the lives of many Liberians.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the county, Dr. George through his humanitarian Foundation, was seen in many communities and around Ganta providing materials including buckets and other disinfectants to help combat the disease.
However, this initiative was later on turned Political by others who wanted to use the situation to gain Political prominence.
But speaking to Voice of Gompa on Friday, Dr. George debunked those perceptions and said he has absolutely no Political ambition as being insinuated.
He added that he is a health worker, and at no time will he compromise his profession for politics.
“I am a medical personnel, I am not a Politician and I don’t even want to be”, he furthered.
The former E&J Medical Boss maintained that his initiatives were meant to help save lives and not for any Political reason.
Meanwhile, some residents of Ganta and Nimba have expressed sadness over news about the transfer of the doctor.
They are calling on the Chief Executive Officer of E&J, Rep. Jeremiah Kpan Koung to do everything humanly possible to ensure he comes back to the facility.
Some of them, mostly young people have threatened to stage a mass protest action if Dr. George is not reassigned to the hospital.
According to them, they will not vote for Rep. Koung in the upcoming December 8 special senatorial election if the doctor is not allowed to come back.
However, investigation into the doctor’s abrupt transfer to Gbarpolu County still continues.
