Delegates from across Bong County have concluded a meeting to decide the appropriations of development funds for the county, approving an expected income from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning in the tune of 1,999,750.08
The council is the highest decision-making body of the county, where stakeholders of the county converge to discuss appropriations of funds destined for the county.
Meetings for the previous three years never took place after a string of delays and the lack of funds.
The County sitting brought together eight of Bong County Nine Lawmakers, Commissioners including over hundred Delegates, eminent citizens and media observers.
At the sitting, the previous Bong County Administration of the former Unity Party led Government submitted liabilities owed contractors in an amount of 2, 577, and 0843.33 to the current Bong County Administration under the CDC Led government.
However, the CDC Led government through President George Weah who has agreed to reduce the liabilities, which affects the Gbarnga Broad Street project US$676,876.05 and the Bong County Technical College US $1,309,828.20 will now see a drastic reduction in the total liabilities owed contractors.
The Bong County Administration submitted an expected income from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning to the Delegates in the tone of US$1,999,750.08 which was followed by the submission of development proposals by Delegates to the Council Sitting for consideration and subsequent adoptions to form part of the development packages for the fiscal year 2018/2019 in accordance with Budget law of Liberia.
At the County Sitting, US$50,000 was allotted for the renovation of the Superintendent Compound, 46,000 for Bong County Administration Administrative expenses, US$75,870 for the Project Management Committee Operational Budget while 15,000 was allotted for all community radio stations in the County.
Others include, Bong County Technical College operational funds 65,000, support to Bong County Sports Team US$75,000, re-activation of Madam Suakoko Scholarship US$100,000, Disable Community US$10,000, Bong County Library project 75,000 and US$ 60,000 for Drugs support to CB Dunbar Maternity Hospital amongst others.
At the end of the sitting, the Chairman of the Bong County Legislative Caucus Senator Henry Willie Yallah extended commendations to the Delegates for taking their time to decide major developments of the County.
The Bong County Senator admonished the Project Management Committee to be robust in making sure that allotted monies be used for intended purposes.
