Benedict Tokpa Danuweli’s Acceptance: “Youth Leader Extraordinaire of the year – 2023” – GNN Liberia

January 26th, 2024

Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed guests, and members of the Global News Network, it is with profound gratitude and humility that I accept the Youth Leader Extraordinaire of the Year Award for 2023. This recognition is not just a personal triumph but a testament to the collaborative efforts of the extraordinary team at EQUIP Leadership Liberia and the inspiring youths we are privileged to serve.

As I reflect on my leadership philosophy, I am reminded of the timeless wisdom from Jesus, who taught that “the greatest among you must be your servant.” This principle has been the guiding light in my leadership journey. I firmly believe that true greatness is found in serving others, in empowering and uplifting those around us. This philosophy permeates every facet of my work, and I am grateful to witness its impact through initiatives like the Beyond Success Program, a John C. Maxwell’s signature initiative.

It’s essential to clarify that I have never sought popularity in my endeavors. Instead, I have built my life on the fundamental principle of leaving every space or person better than I found them. This award reaffirms that commitment, fortifying my belief that Liberia is on an upward trajectory. Together, we can forge a nation where ethical leadership, civic engagement, and transformative change drive our collective aspirations.

The Beyond Success Program, spanning six counties, has been a labor of love aimed at empowering thousands of youths. Witnessing the transformative change taking root in these communities, where young individuals not only acquire essential skills but also gain the confidence to be catalysts for positive change, is truly heartening.

In 2023, our campaign educated Liberian youths on voting for competence, integrity, and individuals with the right motives. This initiative underscores our dedication to civic engagement and our unwavering belief in shaping a generation of ethical and responsible leaders who will contribute to a brighter future for Liberia.

I extend my sincere gratitude for the impactful work we are doing through the Institutional Capacity Development Project at the Liberia Revenue Authority, in collaboration with the Swedish Tax Agency. Together, we are enhancing the LRA’s capacity to generate domestic resources, and the development of a bespoke leadership program for leaders within the revenue house stands as a testament to our commitment to positive organizational change.

In conclusion, I am grateful for the honor bestowed upon me as the “Youth Leader Extraordinaire.” This recognition is not just about me but a celebration of the untapped potential within Liberia’s youth, a rallying call for ethical and visionary leadership. To my fellow Liberians in leadership positions, elected by the people, I leave you with the words of my mentor, John C. Maxwell: “To build trust, a leader must exemplify competence, connection, and character.” Let us collectively strive to build a Liberia that stands as a beacon of ethical leadership, trust, and positive transformation.

Thank you, Global News Network Liberia, for this tremendous honor. Together, let us continue to inspire and empower the youth, fostering ethical servant leadership for a brighter and more prosperous Liberia.
