The management of Arcelor Mittal Liberia through its Corporate Communication Office has refuted reports that it has shut down or is intending to shut down its operations in Liberia.
The company’s head of Corporate Communication, Amanda Hill, told journalists at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing Thursday that Arcelor Mittal is still operating and will continue to do so with no disruptions.
Hill indicated that the company is, among several things, considering new investment to improve the grade of Liberia’s iron ore and extend the operational life of its mine beyond 2022 to increase the government’s revenue steam.
“This investment will also improve training and capabilities amongst our Liberian employees, demonstrating our confidence in the country and its future,” Hill explained.
She added that funding support by the company for the pavement of the Ganta-Yekepa road project is indicative of its commitment to work in partnership with the new government to achieving its Pro-Poor Agenda.
“Arcelor Mittal Liberia believes in forging a strong partnership with the Government of Liberia, the private sector and civil society to support our shared goal in building a robust and stable economy,” the Arcelor Mittal communication head emphasized.
Recently, there have been reports that Arcelor Mittal Liberia is shutting down its operations in the country.
