Accident kills priest going for Good Friday service

Ujjain: A Catholic priest going to conduct Good Friday service in a mission center in the diocese of Ujjain on April 2 was killed in a road accident.

Father John Nadunilam was going from Jamner town to Kalapipal village, some 10 km northeast, in Guna district of Madhya Pradesh, central India.

The death occurred when his car collided with a truck in the morning. He was 46.

The funeral details will be announced later.

The member of the Kerala-based Missionaries of St Thomas had served in Thakkala and Mandya dioceses in India and his congregation’s missions in Tanzania and South Africa, before coming to Ujjain.

He was a native of St Anthony’s parish in Paduvagiri near Vazhithala Kuninji in Kerala’s Idukki district.

He was born on May 31, 1973, as one of the four children of Augustine and late Rosamma Nadunilam. He was ordained a priest on April 26, 2004.

His lone sister Elizabeth is a member of the Sisters of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
