President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has called on Liberians to strengthen unity, promote peace, and embrace shared responsibility as the nation marked National Unification Day on Thursday, May 14, 2026. In a commemorative message delivered from Monrovia, President Boakai described the observance as a powerful reminder of Liberia’s collective identity and the enduring values that bind its people together. He emphasized that the day goes beyond ceremonial recognition, serving instead as a renewed call for patriotism, national cohesion, and mutual respect among all citizens.

Speaking on the occasion, the President underscored that Liberia’s continued progress depends on the willingness of its people to rise above ethnic, regional, and social differences in favor of unity and national development. He noted that the country has consistently drawn strength from its resilience, shared history, and the determination of its citizens to overcome challenges.

“National Unification Day is not merely a date of observance; it is a celebration of our common nationhood, our shared journey, and the enduring truth that Liberia is strongest when all her sons and daughters move forward together in mutual respect, patriotism, and collective responsibility,” President Boakai stated. He further highlighted perseverance, courage, faith, and renewal as defining qualities of the Liberian spirit, commending citizens for their continued commitment to rebuilding and moving the nation forward despite past and present difficulties.

Reaffirming his administration’s development agenda, President Boakai said efforts are underway to promote inclusive growth that reaches all parts of the country. He outlined ongoing initiatives aimed at expanding economic opportunities, strengthening public institutions, and empowering young people to play a meaningful role in national transformation.

The President stressed that nation-building is a shared responsibility that extends beyond government action, calling on all Liberians to actively contribute to national progress. “It is a shared responsibility to place country above self and to contribute positively to the continued advancement of our beloved Republic,” he added.

Addressing the youth, President Boakai encouraged discipline, patriotism, innovation, and service, describing young people as central to shaping Liberia’s future. He also expressed appreciation to elders, traditional leaders, religious communities, women’s groups, civil society actors, public servants, and Liberians in the diaspora for their continued contributions to national development.

He noted that national transformation is driven not only by policy direction but also by collective civic responsibility, urging citizens to remain committed to unity and cooperation for a more stable and prosperous Liberia. “Let this day remind us that Liberia’s future will be shaped not simply by what government does, but by what all of us choose to do together as one people with one shared destiny,” the President said.

Closing his message, President Boakai called on Liberians to renew their commitment to peace, civic duty, and national pride, encouraging citizens to “think Liberia, love Liberia, and build Liberia” as the country continues its journey toward peace, stability, and development.
