Naymote Deepens Legislative Partnership, Presents Advocacy Guide to House Speaker
By Amos Harris
Naymote Partners for Democratic Development has reinforced its commitment to strengthening democratic governance in Liberia with the formal presentation of its Legislative Engagement Guide for Advocacy in Liberia (LEGAL) to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon.
The presentation was led by Naymote’s Executive Director, Mr. Eddie D. Jarwolo, who characterized the LEGAL Guide as a timely and practical instrument designed to empower citizens, civil society organizations, advocates, and public leaders. By providing a clear roadmap for interacting with the government, the Guide aims to enhance transparency, accountability, and inclusive participation in the national lawmaking process.
During the meeting, Mr. Jarwolo commended Speaker Koon for his leadership and consistent efforts toward modernizing legislative governance. He emphasized that collaborative partnerships between the Legislature and civil society are indispensable for deepening the roots of democracy in Liberia.
As a forward-looking initiative, Mr. Jarwolo also proposed the establishment of the Liberia Institute for Legislative Studies (LILS). This platform would serve as a dedicated capacity-building hub to improve the understanding of legislative roles, parliamentary procedures, and international best practices among lawmakers, legislative staff, and the general public.
Speaker Koon, representing the 55th Legislature, warmly welcomed the LEGAL Guide and expressed a strong interest in the proposed Institute. He praised Naymote for its sustained dedication to institutional strengthening and reaffirmed the House of Representatives’ commitment to maintaining an open-door policy for partnerships that promote effective governance and active citizen engagement.
This high-level engagement highlights Naymote’s expanding role as a strategic partner in advancing Liberia’s democratic agenda. Through policy advocacy and civic education, the organization continues to work alongside the House of Representatives to build a more transparent, inclusive, and accountable legislative system for all Liberians.
