Police look into a vehicle involved in a violent attack occurred on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, on Cleveland Avenue in Rockford.
Four people are dead after a man embarked on a stabbing rampage in Rockford, Illinois on Wednesday afternoon. A further seven have been injured.
According to a news release from the Rockford Police Department, the victims were a 15-year-old girl, a 63-year-old woman, a 49-year-old man, and a 22-year-old man. The injured individuals were transported to local hospitals with “serious injuries,” added the police statement.
Speaking at a news conference on Wednesday afternoon, Police Chief Carla Redd said one of the injured was in a “critical condition” following the incident, which she called a “multi-jurisdictional event.”
Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana added that one of those injured in the attack was a woman who had received stab wounds to her hands and face in a home invasion. “The young lady ran from him,” he said. “She is currently at a hospital and she is intubated and she is in a serious condition.”

Caruana continued that a male who came to the woman’s assistance was also stabbed and was being checked out at the hospital but is doing “fine.”
According to the authorities, per ABC News, a postal worker is among the four individuals who died. CNN reported that five people were injured in the city of Rockford and two people were injured in the jurisdiction of Winnebago County, citing a Rockford Police Department spokesperson.
