BRUSSELS, Belgium – The election of world famous soccer star as Liberia’s president-elect promises a dividend of stronger bilateral ties between the North African nation of Morocco and the West Africa nation of Liberia.
The president-elect, George Manneh Weah, and the king of Morocco expressed their unwavering commitment and willingness to strengthen bilateral ties during a phone call between the two leaders.
Morocco’s King Mohammed VI and Liberia’s President-elect Weah exchanged compliments and goodwill, according to a release from the Moroccan king’s office.
On this occasion, the king reiterated his warmest congratulations to President-elect Weah following his election as Liberia’s new leader, the source said.
President-elect Weah underscored his determination to strengthen the relations between Liberia and Morocco, the statement added.
Last Sunday, the Moroccan king sent a congratulatory message to President-elect Weah on his election victory, while pledging to strengthen the bilateral ties in all sectors of Liberia.
Jones Nhinson Williams, a U.S. trained job creation expert and public policy professional, hailed the communication between President-elect Weah and the king of Morocco.
Adding, “The president-elect should use these contacts to leverage the need for job creation and workforce development initiatives. The president-elect needs the help of all Liberians and we will do whatever it takes to help him and his administration from wherever destination we are. It is time to collectively ensure that Liberia succeeds,” Williams said.
Weah will become Liberia’s 25th president after he takes office in mid-January from outgoing president Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf who is scheduled for retirement after two terms in office.
The president-elect has pledged to combat corruption, a draconian illness in the Liberian society He also vowed to improve the welfare of Liberians.
