The United Nations Focus Person at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Ben Kamara, has admonished Liberians to use their natural resources wisely to enhance the country’s development.
According to Kamara, the wrongful use of the nation’s natural resources has the propensity to break the economy and cause underdevelopment.
“We cannot continue to wrongly harvest our resources; all Liberians must work together in order to ensure the sustainable development of the country,” Kamara stated.
Alluding particularly to the nation’s forests, Kamara said in an interview with the Liberia News Agency (LINA) in Monrovia recently that if citizens are not careful in how they cut down valuable trees, the nation will in the next five to ten years have no wood to use in infrastructure development, adding that “the high rate of environmental depreciation is hampering the society.”
He pointed out that the EPA is putting in place the proper mechanisms to ensure that the resources of the country adequately meet the aspiration of the people and is also sufficient for the future generations of the country.
Kamara called on farmers across the country to work with the EPA in ensuring that the environmental challenges are addressed.
