Trouble Creeps: As Sierra Leoneans Hostile Against Players Of Liberia National Football Team
What seems to be a serious trouble between Sierra Leone and Liberia is gradually creeping, and if not addressed properly may likely hamper the cordial relationship that have been existing over the years.
According to report from Freetown, Sierra Leone backed with horrifying videos posted on social media showed how the Liberian national football team players were brutally attacked by angry Sierra Leonean fans.
The Liberian Lone Star team traveled to Sierra Leone in order to honor the second leg of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers after winning the first leg match in Monrovia with 3 goals to one at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex on Wednesday, September 4.
At the Siaka Steven Stadium, where the re-turned match is expected to be played on Sunday, September 8, Lone Star had gone to do their training in the afternoon when angry fans began throwing stones and physically attacking the team.
For a long period, the ugly scene was unattended to by Sierra Leonean police, who arrived several minutes later. Even in one of video clips, the police officers are visibly seen next to the Liberian team’s bus and unruly fans are still hitting the bus with stones.
