Thousands March On Capitol To Protest Against Rape, Sodomy

As the issue of rampant rape of young children and girls, and the sodomy of young boys on the increase, thousands of protesters today marched on Capitol Hill to express their frustration to the Liberian lawmakers, and President George Manneh Weah about this ugly situation.

The protesters mainly of whom are young women and men with placards of various inscriptions denouncing the issue of rape and sodomy, and further called on the international community to urgently prevail on the government of President George Weah to extremely bring the perpetrators of these heinous crimes to book.

Over the past months, Liberia has been overwhelmed of the continuous reports of rape by people both in government and the private sector, with the recent report of a police officer who was arrested and currently behind bars, months later; a pastor (Man of God) was also arrested for raping.

According to statistics, five to ten children are reported raped or sodomized by older people, one of the most terrible thing that happened in western Liberia was man who reportedly raped a young baby by using a razor blade to open the private of the child, this man is also said is been put behind bars awaiting trial.

It is yet not clear, as to whether the petition from the protesters was delivered at the Capitol Building today, as the action of the protesters is said to be an ongoing exercise.
