Shooting At Army Military Barracks Spark Fear, As One Officer Apprehended

According to a local daily, quoting ‘credible’ eyewitnesses accounts, said serious shooting took place early hours of Wednesday morning, October 30, 2019 at the Edward Beyan Kesselly (EBK) Military Barracks in Margibi County, on the Roberts International Airport highway was allegedly led by one Sergeant Amos Kollie, who was said to have been ‘dissatisfied’.

According to the Daily Observer, quoting eyewitnesses, said the shooting was a result of dissatisfaction and low morale among military personnel at the EBK barracks, who are believed to be suffering due to a bad working environment. “The soldiers were seeking for improved working conditions,” one of the eyewitnesses told reporters.

The shooting came about when Sergeant Kollie “indiscriminately opened fire inside the Barracks. Though no one was report injured during the incident.”

The reported shooting took place in the office of the Bridge Commander, Col. Theophilus Dana. The incident which reports claimed happened between 10 and 11am, ended when a standby force apprehended Sergeant Kollie.

This incident also created fear in residents of the area, and also led to the temporary closure of the road leading to the Robertsfield International Airpor (RIA). However, the Assistant Minister for Public Affairs, Sam Collins told reporters that Liberians should not be panic of such situation and should go about their normal businesses.
