Senator Bartekwa Calls for Central Government to Pave Southeast Roads, Barclayville City, Grand Kru County – Grand Kru County Senator Numene T. H. Bartekwa is urging the central government to leverage international assistance to fund road development in the Southeastern region of the country.
On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Senator Bartekwa told legislative reporters that Southeastern roads are in deplorable condition, particularly within his county, creating unbearable situations for citizens.
“According to assessments, this country has 760 kilometers of undeveloped primary roads,” Senator Bartekwa stated. “Until these roads are addressed, any government service will be delivered at a minimal level.”
The county legislative caucus chairman emphasized that paving roads in the Southeast would significantly improve living conditions in the sub-region, fostering economic growth and job creation.
It’s been reported that the Liberian government, through its international development partners, has secured nearly $50 million to pave the road from Barclayville to Sinoe County. Meanwhile, the locals of Grand Kru have appealed to the national government to include the Barclayville to Pleebo road in its development package.
In a commendable effort, locals in Bolloh, Dorbor Statutory District, have initiated a self-help project to recondition major roads in the district. They have also petitioned the County Legislative Caucus and the national government for support.
For years, access to roads in major parts of the district has been a significant challenge, with local vendors facing high transportation costs to bring their goods to market.
The relaunch of the road project took place on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, in the Bolloh Community of Jarkakpo.
