Senate Rejects President Weah’s Nominee as Deputy Commissioner-Designate for Maritime
The Liberian Senate today, June 9, 2022 rejected Ms. Edwina Collins nomination as Maritime Deputy Commissioner-designate; brands the presidential appointee as highly unqualified for the post
The Senate plenary decision was taken following a confirmation report by the Committee on Maritime, after Madam Collins appeared before it on Thursday, for confirmation hearing.
The committee, in its report to plenary, asserted that Madam Edwina Collins does not have the requisite qualifications to serve as Deputy Commissioner General for Maritime.
19 senators voted to deny Madam Collins confirmation, while one person went against and one abstained.
Prior to the Senate’s decision to reject Madam Collins, it was rumored that the nominee was a fiancé of the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel Falo McGill who is currently out of the country, rights group used this rumor to call on the Senate to reject her during her confirmation.
