Senate Pro-Tempore Champions Local Rice with Major Purchase, Boosts CHAP Initiative
By Amos Harris
In a decisive move to champion local industry, the President Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate, Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, has ordered 130 bags of “I Love Liberian Rice.” This flagship product is cultivated by the Community of Hope Agriculture Project (CHAP) and represents a growing momentum toward national food self-sufficiency.
The endorsement follows a strategic meeting at the Liberian Senate between Senator Karnga-Lawrence and Bishop Robert S. M. Bimba, the Chief Executive Officer of CHAP. Their discussion focused on the essential need to expand domestic rice production to reduce Liberia’s heavy reliance on imported staples.
During the session, the Senate Pro-Tempore lauded CHAP for the exceptional quality and professional packaging of their product. She noted that such high standards are the primary catalyst for building consumer confidence and ensuring that Liberian goods can compete effectively in the open market.
Beyond the immediate purchase, Senator Karnga-Lawrence reaffirmed her commitment to CHAP’s expansion efforts within Grand Bassa County. She emphasized that scaling these agricultural initiatives is vital for rural development, as they create sustainable jobs, empower local farmers, and provide a direct path toward improved livelihoods.
This partnership highlights an increasing alignment between government leadership and private agricultural ventures. By prioritizing homegrown solutions, stakeholders aim to enhance food security and foster long-term economic sustainability. As CHAP continues to increase its output, “I Love Liberian Rice” is rapidly positioning itself as a reliable and high-quality alternative for households across the country.
