This paper has reliably gathered that Grand Cape Mount Senator Simeon Boima Taylor has flexed his muscles as a boss in deducting fifty percent of his staffs’ retroactive salaries and other benefits.
Simeon Taylor of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) was finally certificated by the National Elections Commission, as Senator of Grand Cape Mount County on August 13, 2021 after months of tight legal battle with then Senator Victor Watson of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change.
However, following the climax of legal battle, he and his staffs were given their salaries and benefits for the lost periods; from January to August 2021.
Our sources said prior to the disbursement, Senator Taylor passed a decree that each staff should give him four months of their eight months salaries for supporters in the county during his campaign period.
According to reports, some staffs were in favor of the alleged action, while others were seriously against slashing their legitimate earnings; describing the Senator’s reported act as unfair and unacceptable.
The amount reportedly deducted from his staff is in the tone of about fifteen thousand United States Dollars.
The workers believed they and their families suffered and made lot of sacrifices for Senator Taylor during the December 8, 2020 Special Senatorial Elections; adding that it is time for them to benefit.
Meanwhile, our sources in the corridor of the Liberian Senate said Senator Taylor has also placed hold on the bank accounts of individuals who refused to comply with the mandate from him.
When contacted, the Office of Senator Simeon Taylor admitted to the allegation, stating that the decision to deduct the staffer’s salaries was unanimously agreed upon by the office.
Responding further to our inquiry, the Administrative Assistant in the Office of Senator Taylor, Isaac Johnson said the decision was intended to incorporate other supporters from Grand Cape Mount County who stood by the senator during and after the heat of the December 8, 2020 Special Senatorial Elections.
But, it has not been established whether Senator Simeon Taylor gave the money to the supporters he claimed to be in the county and a list of beneficiaries have not been seen by this paper.
Speaking to this paper on the condition of anonymity, one of his supporters said the Grand Cape Mount County Senator has promised to meet with them on December 27, 2021in the county apparently to decide on what to do with the money.
Political pundits in Grand Cape Mount County believed that Senator Taylor’s action is an attempt to enrich himself at the expense of the struggling staff who risk their lives to ensure his victory.
Some believed the Senator should be appreciating the staff for their respective roles played in his election instead of deducting their little salaries in the midst of the mounting economic challenges in the country.
