Priest killed in road accident in Kerala

Perumbavoor, Nov 11: A 32-year-old Catholic priest belonging to the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (C.M.I.) congregation died in a road accident in the early hours of Nov 11, 2018 in Kerala, a state on the southwestern part of Malabar Coast of India.

Fr. Bijo Karikkarappally was on his way to celebrate Mass near Perumbavoor in Ernakulam district when his motor bike collided with a tipper lorry. He suffered serious injuries and died at the scene of the accident.

Fr. Bijo who hails from Chemmanathukara near Vaikom in Kottayam District was a member of the Sacred Heart (SH) Province known as Rajagiri Province of the CMI congregation. He was serving at Sevagram – a children’s village and hospice in Pothy, near Thalayolaparambu . He was ordained a priest on Jan 1, 2017.

Mortal remains will be kept at Sevagram, Pothy till Tuesday morning. The funeral will be held on Nov 13 at 2.30pm at the Rajagiri Provincial house in Kalamassery.
