President Weah’s Closing Remarks At The End Of Three Days Cabinet Retreat Asked Officials To Remain Focus

The Liberian Leader, President George Manneh Weah has delivered his remarks at the end of the days cabinet retreat in Nimba County commercial city of Ganta on Wednesday, July 13, 2021.

Below is the full text of the President’s remarks held at Peace Empire Hotel:

PEACE EMPIRE Her Excellency Chief Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor,
Vice President of the Republic of Liberia;
The Dean and Members of the Cabinet;
Development Partners and Special Guests;
Officials of Government;

Ladies and Gentlemen:
I am indeed pleased that we have come to a successful conclusion of this all-important Retreat. Over the past few days, we have had very enriching and insightful conversations on the key issues affecting national development, including but not limited to the economy, accountability and transparency, the Legislative agenda, infrastructure, and most importantly, performance and coordination in Government. We have reviewed the progress made over the past years since our inception as a Government and where we want Liberia to be in the final year of our first mandate given to us by the Liberian People.

Let me thank each and every one of you for your valuable contributions over the last few years toward national growth and development, which has certainly powered the significant gains we have made as a Government as we have worked within the framework of our national development plan, the Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD).   I also wish to express my profound appreciation to you for your participation in this Retreat at every level.

During the past few days, we have been bold enough to ask some of the tough questions and accept our challenges and shortcomings in moving our Nation and development agenda forward. These deliberations have strengthened our resolve to make Liberia better than where we met it, and will enable us to better focus on the Government’s priorities for the next 16 months.

In this regard, I am requiring every member of this Government to increase their performance, and prioritize the needs and well-being of our people. We must work together to improve our service delivery and system of governance. We must coordinate and communicate to achieve our strategic priorities. Let me be clear, there will be no room for non-performers and under-achievers in this Government. Let me remind you that our first term is not over yet; we still have 16 months and we must finish strong for the Liberian People. This is a CALL TO ACTION!

To achieve our development objectives  and finish our first term strong, I am hereby instructing the Director-General of the Cabinet to ensure that every member of this Government remains focused  on our strategic priorities for the next 16 months.

Let me caution you that ahead lies a greater responsibility to ensure the successful implementation of the plans derived at this year’s retreat. As this year’s Theme states, “Pushing Forward for A Better Liberia”, it is my ardent hope that it continues to resonate with us as we depart this hall.

Finally, I hope that you enjoyed your brief stay in Nimba County. I wish to, once again, express my gratitude to you for your valuable contributions to this Retreat, and look forward to your collective efforts in achieving our strategic priorities as a Country.

Thank you all once again for your participation.  Let me wish you a safe trip as you return to Monrovia to embark on the implementation of your national responsibilities with renewed dedication and commitment.
